Introduction
Purchased as a replacement for a Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung A50 combination; I was amazed to see that Motorola was even selling mobile phones anymore! With zero up-front payment, and a monthly contrat fee of £38 p/m, this is a considerable commitment, but also a short-term steal, given the charge of 1p for the handset from Mobiles.co.uk. It’s worth noting that you can also fill in a form to receive a Lenovo bed-side clock, equipped with a handy wireless charger upon which to rest your X30 (or any other device sporting the cable-free rejuvenation tech).

200 megapixels is a huge statistic… as is 8k video. Fortunately, the quality is there to backup the numbers.
The camera and lens handles macro photography, even in less-than-ideal lighting, exceptionally well. It’s equally competent with macro video also, as you can see below.

I’m beyond impressed with this phone. I’ve been using it for 3 days, so it’s not exactly lengthy experience to draw from, but I have put it through it’s paces in numerous ways.
I think I’m most impressed by Motorola’s “Ready For” software-set… a Windows application which extends the functionality of the phone way beyond my expectations. Firstly, it can operate as a webcam for your computer…this isn’t like the apps which emulate a webcam using your phone’s camera, this is like a whole webcam replacement suite. Windows recognizes a natively connected webcam, so it works with everything from OBS to Zoom to Discord etc…
The image quality is absolutely insane – the highest I’ve seen on any dedicated webcam, it offers full face tracking (since the camera resolution is so huge, it’s able to use the wide shot to cover a large area, while zooming in and retaining full clarity and detail). You can choose front or rear camera, and if you choose rear you can also illuminate your face with the camera’s flash/light. The only weakness is the background blurring, at least in my experience – it definitely blurs the background, and you can definitely see yourself clearly, but it looks like your image has been cut out by a child with a pair of scissors – there’s no smoothing or feathering to make the background seem naturally out of focus (blurred).
Fortunately this is no problem whatsoever, since there are much better Windows apps which will perform the background blurring for you, and if you’re lucky, you have an Nvidia RTX GPU, in which case you have the cream of the crop: Broadcast – GPU based background remove/replace, removal of unwanted background audio etc… Again, there is not a webcam on the market which can meet, let alone surpass, the x30 PRETENDING to be a webcam.
