Diablo 4 XP – Major Boost With Patch 1.03

tl;dr Patch 1.03 of Diablo 4 increases the XP rewards from challenging activities, making leveling faster and more fun for both Eternal and seasonal players. Kind Regards, Chu 👍🏽

Only a matter of days ago (late June 2023 ) an article, indicting Blizzard’s XP balancing in Diablo 4, carried some weight – undeniably people have found a sudden upward spike in the graph of XP needed…or a downward curve in the pace of hitting a new level; however you want to look at it.

Things move fast in the world of AAA game development… just as soon as a journalist puts out an article scathing the XP per level, in swoops Blizz like a Gryphon ridden by a game developer.

As if ready to hit back with a diss-track reply, MC Blizz hit back with the .03 … Patch 1.03, with mouth-watering notes such as:

Gameplay Adjustments

Experience Rewards

  • Significantly increased the experience awarded for completing Nightmare Dungeons.
  • Significantly increased the experience gained from killing monsters in Nightmare Dungeons.
  • Helltide chests now provide substantially more bonus experience when opened.
  • Significantly increased rewarded experience from completing individual Whispers across the board.
  • Fixed an issue where no experience was awarded for completing the hold out style event that can occur after finishing dungeon objectives.

General

  • The Helltide Roaming bosses will now more consistently drop higher quality loot.
  • Players can now teleport to their Nightmare Dungeon directly through the map.
  • Weekly bonus caches from world bosses no longer have a level requirement for opening.

Notice a recurring ‘S’ word? In short, Blizz want to replace players discussion of ‘Slow‘ with ‘Significantly‘ faster – and by all accounts, that’s what they’ve taken solid steps to accomplish. Personally, I want the game to have a degree of grind…I want to feel accomplished when I hit 70, 80, 90 and the big one double zero…and if it feels like 50 to 100 went from a daunting but delectably Diabolic dance with the devil…to a ‘here you go players, let’s put your toys back in the pram before you cry again’, then I’ll definitely quit the game. OK, not even close…it’ll be fine, primarily because I’m looking forwad to levelling all of the other classes too. I can’t believe I’m speaking to sidequest NPCs and exploring the dialogue trees to learn more about a random drunk fellow who died, which ties into the theft of a Goose…or how the Iron Wolves honour their fallen by distributing the equipment of those that died in combat. Meanwhlie I could, and expected to, rinse and repeat whatever the top XP-per-hour method of playing is…just to chase an arbitrary ‘cap’. How shallow and void that notion feels, knowing now that Diablo 4 is impeccably voice-acted, with stunning depth to the game world (in the context of it’s genre; it’s not supposed to be Baldur’s Gate to any of the strange hyper-critical players saying the game is repetitive)…. you can’t spell ARPG without ‘repititive’… it jsut so happens that Blizzard added another A to ARPG and made an AWESOME ARPG.

I am glad if a large majority of players feel happy about the XP buffs though; I’d rather be part of a happy community surrounding a phenomenal product, than whining, whinging, ‘offended at the prospect of effort’ type people.

That’s none of you though; you’re the cool ones that go as far as reading colour commentary blog posts on XP buffs 🥰
